Glimmering, it started, as a stream
As many streams there be.
It found its way, amidst rocks and stone,
But a curious traveler was he.
He followed it from where it sprung
And walked along its path
Knowing that further as he went
He would find his home at last
(Far along the bank; away,
He knew there was a town.
Where he had a home to live
And his name had won renown.)
He swelled with pride as the stream grew .
Cried when came the drought,
As what was now a river began to flicker,
And could any day be lost.
He prayed for it to grow mighty, strong
And strong in faith was he.
For soon the river filled with vigor again,
More glorious, and free.
This went on and on,
Till the fated day arrived .
the day the man reached
his town, by the riverside.
the man, you know, was overjoyed,
For his moment had arrived.
to have reached his good and homely place,
with the mighty river, by his side.
but then came the storm and came the flood,
which washed away the land.
a rubble remained of the house,
where once had stayed the man.
the traveler somehow survived the flood,
destroyed him was no man.
instead it was an immortal river,
A vanity of his own plan.
Now, catiously he swept the scene,
and keen was his glare.
he felt his heart beating within,
his lungs screamed for air.
alarmed ! he was, as a dead twig,
crumbled beneath his feet.
his dusty face was tired and worn,
and knowing a look had he.
seconds stretched thin as hours,
yet motionless was he.
thorns and stings reduced to flowers.
he smiled at destiny.
he lives now, in an uncanny land,
from water and snow which is bare.
away from the river he resides,
yet undiminished is his care.
he feels not at all betrayed,
but he grieves that it was the end.
he blames the sun, he blames the storm,
which corrupted the soul of his friend.
The river will call him one day
And need him it will
For the sun will set and the rain will dry
And come to aid he will
He waits now and wait he will
Till he hears the call
Of an immortal who was his aide
Whom fate couldn’t stall
